IB MYP Subject-Wise Support
Every IB MYP student has different academic needs. Some students need deeper support in Mathematics, some require stronger scientific explanations, some need guided English writing practice and others benefit from help in Individuals and Societies, Language Acquisition, Design or project-based work.
At Baccalaureate Classes, our IB MYP Subject-Wise Support is designed for students already studying in MYP 1, MYP 2, MYP 3, MYP 4 or MYP 5 who need focused one-to-one online tutoring in specific subjects.
This is a transparent, grade-specific and subject-specific support programme. Parents can choose the student's MYP grade, subject and support level before enrolling. Each subject includes three clear options: Short-Term Support, Crash Course Support and Full Subject Support.
The total hours are intentionally not the same for every subject. Mathematics receives the highest number of hours because it usually needs the most sequential concept building. Sciences receive slightly fewer hours, followed by English, Individuals and Societies, Language Acquisition and Design according to the learning demands of each subject.
What Is IB MYP Subject-Wise Support?
IB MYP Subject-Wise Support is a personalised online tutoring programme for students who are already enrolled in the Middle Years Programme and need academic support in selected subjects during the school year.
This course is different from the IB MYP Transition Course. The Transition Course is for students entering MYP from PYP 5 or another curriculum. Subject-Wise Support is for students already studying in MYP who need targeted improvement in one or more subjects.
The support may include concept clarity, homework guidance, assignment planning, assessment preparation, response writing, project organisation and criterion-based improvement. The aim is to help students become more confident, more organised and more independent in the subjects where they need help most.

Transparent Hour Structure Across Subjects
The support hours decrease gradually from Mathematics to Sciences and then to writing, language and project-based subjects. This keeps the course practical, transparent and aligned with the type of learning support usually required in each subject.
| Subject Area | Hour Logic |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | Highest hours because it is sequential, concept-heavy and practice-based. |
| Sciences | Slightly lower than Mathematics but still strong because Science requires conceptual understanding, data analysis and explanation. |
| English / Language and Literature | Lower than Mathematics and Sciences because improvement depends on guided writing practice, feedback and revision. |
| Individuals and Societies | Lower than English because support often focuses on sources, explanations and unit-specific understanding. |
| Language Acquisition | Planned around grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking and listening practice. |
| Design | Project-based support focused on the design cycle, documentation, reflection and submissions. |
Fixed-Hour Subject-Wise Support Plans

Assignment, Assessment and Criterion-Based Support
MYP tasks can be challenging because students are expected to explain, justify, analyse, evaluate, investigate and reflect. Subject-wise support helps students understand what a task requires and how to improve the quality of their response.
- Understanding task instructions and teacher expectations
- Planning written responses before starting the final answer
- Improving explanations, examples and paragraph structure
- Practising assessment-style questions in the selected subject
- Applying teacher feedback to future assignments
- Organising project work and submission timelines
- Strengthening weak topics before tests
- Building better revision and study routines
Tutors do not complete assignments for students. We guide students to understand expectations, improve their thinking and produce better work independently.
How Our IB MYP Tutors Help Students Improve
- Identify the student's subject needs by reviewing grade, school expectations, recent performance and current challenges.
- Select the right support level based on the urgency of the problem and the depth of tutoring required.
- Build concept clarity through step-by-step explanations and guided practice.
- Improve written responses by helping students organise ideas, explain clearly and use evidence appropriately.
- Support assignments and assessments while keeping all final work student-led and authentic.
- Update parents with clear progress notes, covered topics and recommended next steps.
Why Students Struggle in MYP Subjects
Many students struggle in the MYP because the programme expects more than memorisation. Students must understand ideas, apply concepts, communicate clearly and complete tasks independently.
- Weak foundations in one or more subjects
- Difficulty applying concepts in unfamiliar situations
- Unclear written responses or incomplete explanations
- Limited understanding of task expectations
- Difficulty applying teacher feedback
- Stress caused by multiple assignments and deadlines
- Low confidence in Mathematics or Sciences
- Weak reading, interpretation or source-analysis skills
- Inconsistent revision before assessments
- Poor organisation of study time and project work
Subject-wise support helps students address these issues early and build confidence gradually instead of relying only on last-minute preparation.
Course Outcomes
With consistent subject-wise support, students should be able to:
- Understand difficult concepts more clearly
- Improve confidence in selected MYP subjects
- Write stronger explanations and responses
- Prepare better for school assessments
- Organise assignments with greater clarity
- Apply teacher feedback more effectively
- Develop better study habits
- Participate more confidently in class

Best Time to Start IB MYP Subject-Wise Support
The best time to start subject-wise support is as soon as the student begins struggling in a subject. Waiting until the final assessment period can make gaps harder to fix.
This course is especially useful at the beginning of the academic year, after low feedback in one subject, before unit tests, during assignment-heavy months, before moving into upper MYP or when MYP 5 students need project or subject support.
Consistent support helps students improve gradually instead of depending only on last-minute preparation.
IB MYP Subject-Wise Support vs IB MYP Transition Course
| Course | Best For | Main Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| IB MYP Subject-Wise Support | Students already studying in MYP 1 to MYP 5 | Focused tutoring in selected subjects during the academic year |
| IB MYP Transition Course | Students entering MYP from PYP 5 or another curriculum | Short-term preparation before regular MYP learning begins |
The Transition Course helps students adjust to the MYP. Subject-Wise Support helps students improve within the MYP.
